How did you get started in the business?
I started in the biz back in 1986. The way it happened was I was in Silverlake, CA. at a hardcore leather bar called 'The One Way' (It has since been closed). I was there because my lover at the time (my first one!) had been put on a Tom of Finland calendar (drawn by Tom before his death). So we were there to meet and greet people along with Tom himself. I think I was playing pool and I'm sure I was drinking beer (one of my favorite things to do in a bar) when I was approached by Thor Johnson (who was working with Adam & Co. at the time). He asked me if I had ever considered doing porno movies. I told him that I hadn't but I did have a degree in radio/TV from Cal-State Long Beach. The rest is history. I started making movies for Adam & Co. (Which no longer exists) and went on from there.
So you have been in the industry for 17 years. Wow, how do you stop from getting burned out?
I don't run with the 'A' crowd/party-favor girls.
Was your decision to get into porn in the first place more a financial, sexual, or stardom issue?
It was purely a financial thing. Someone offered me a job; I weighed the pros and cons and decided to give it a try. I never did, and still don't, have issues with needing or wanting to be something akin to a James Dean or Marilyn Monroe - Hollywood Superstar. I know a lot of fellas that do though, "God bless 'em one and all." Regarding the sex issue...if one knew some of the difficulties dealing with this industry in a sexual capacity they might think twice about getting involved or at least 'take off the rose colored glasses' and see things for what they are. Translation: get a reality check! I know guys that get/have more sex at the bathhouses than McDonalds has served burgers and they have never done a porno. Go figure.
What was the most surprising thing about making porn that you didn't expect?
Well, I didn't have any expectations going in. I just went with the flow so to speak. But you can't even imagine all the drama that gay men perpetuate. It's enough to write a book about...SERIOUS Non-Fiction. Life imitating art in a not so good way.
Ok, now I need a couple examples of the drama...
Drama being a relative term depending on who you ask and what they are willing to put up with. Here is one example of what I consider needless drama. I appeared in a video entitled 'Said & Done' for All Worlds Video starring Hodge Armstrong, Matt Bradshaw, Sam Carson, Sam Dixon, Eduardo, John Ross, and myself. My sex scenes were with John Ross who made it quite apparent that he was not happy working with me. I came to find out during the shoot from the other performers who I got along magnificently with (hot tubbing and drinking beer) that JR had wanted his lover at the time, Jack Simmons, to be in the scene with him. I guess sort of like video imitating real life. Well, he made it VERY hard to get anything on film remotely believable. To cut to the chase...the final straw for me was, after our sex scene had to be delayed to the end of the shoot (pool problems) he tried to lay some crap on me. The scene in question was to be the opening of the video! While getting ourselves ready for a long shot, to close up, he stated to me, "Oh, I don't suck dick till the camera is rolling!" I looked at the straight cameraman (who I knew from numerous over video shoots) and we both said simultaneously "Oh fuck!". I promptly went to the director, who was about 200 ft. away and relayed the comments with JR trailing behind pleading ignorance..."You misunderstood me." Moral of the story: If you know who is going to appear in sex scenes with you and he did, DO NOT waste everyone's TIME/FILM/MONEY trying to be a DIVA. Unless of course your name is in the title. 'The Sad and Sorry Life of Miss Thang'. Nuff said.
There's some good advice. Do you have any basic advice for guys wanting to break into the business?
DO NOT start off as a Crack Head, Speed Freak, Partyboy, Tweaker, or Drunk. You will have ample time to achieve those goals (if you are weak minded or weak willed) after you mix it up with the boys!
Is the attention porn stars get addictive?
If one has the personality or needs to get their ego stroked to feel like a real man I guess it can be.
And what is it that makes a man sexy?

Well, since I have no control over my 'ethnicity' I don't worry about such matters. I'm sure it has worked both ways. Although if I was a Caucasian blonde bombshell I'm sure my dance card would be filled to the brim. So to speak money, don't blondes have more fun?
Is there anything you've been dying to do on screen but no one has yet to ask?

And how would you advise staying real?
Remember who you are and where you came from. Remember you have a real life with a real family. Remember all the tough times you’ve experienced and know that you have a real life and real obligations that the industry can never measure up to. Remember that many in the biz are into drugs, many are into selling themselves short and hooking with some really (ugly on the inside) people. Try to enjoy the experience of sex on film…and leave it right there. Don’t get into the hype the drag queen directors and user reviewers try to place on you, they will suck you dry and spit you out when you have nothing left to offer them. If you have drug issues or self worth issues this is not the biz to get into. Do it for yourself, not anyone else. Say “No” when you feel you need to. After all, you are not just speaking lines… You’re giving every inch of yourself to a group of people who only want to make a buck off seeing your cock cum and your ass swell from getting fucked. They don’t care at all. These are things to remember to keep it real. The solution is to make it "law” that if filmed or photographed for profit and paid for that service, that the model is entitled to a percentage of its income. That’s the way the REAL film industry works. You get a percentage of the profit including all sales in form of video, DVD, etc. All it takes is 500 signatures on a petition to make it law. It then goes to the state, and the state puts it on the ballot. We the people say yeah or nay. One day someone will do just that...Never know it may even be me.
